In an investigation of the ingredients in more than 23,000 personal care products, Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that nearly one of every 30 products sold in the United States fails to meet one or more industry or governmental cosmetics safety standards. They found nearly 400 products sold in the U.S. containing chemicals that are prohibited for use in cosmetics in other countries, and over 400 products containing ingredients that cosmetic industry safety panels have found unsafe when used as directed on product labels, including the U.S.-based Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) and the International Fragrance Association. For My Kids Herbal Insect Repellent

Our newest product, For My Kids Herbal Insect Repellent, was a request from friends and family with small children and babies who wanted something that could be used without worrying about harmful chemicals being absorbed into little bodies. Unfortunately, no herbal repellent is effective against all insects, but they do work well against many of the common buggers. What we came up with was a nice, lemony salve that, when rubbed in, isn’t oily. For My Kids Herbal Insect Repellent uses 100 percent pure organic catnip essential oil. Nepetalactone, which gives catnip its odor, was found to be 10 times more effective than the popular insect repellent diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) without the harmful side effects. In experiments, scientists found a greater percentage of mosquitoes were repelled by the catnip extract than by DEET. Just remember that the repellent properties of herbs work due to their essential oils, which evaporate quickly. That means you must reapply regularly.
